John had done some surveying around the old family homestead in Antelope/Roseville for his brother Arthur.
I worked for an old surveyor in Roseville when I was in college. He had sets of old surveying records going back 60 or 70 years. When we found a marker placed by another surveyor, he would usually say you can't trust his work we have to go back to a National Geodetic Survey marker, but there were a few surveyors he trusted. When we found a marker placed by John McBride, he said we could start there, his work was accurate.
