At "THE DESCENDANTS OF JAMES FINLEY and ELIZABETH WARRENDER" Sir William Arbuthnot, states:
"In a Royal Charter given at Edinburgh on 29 April 1574, the king confirmed to James Finley, partitioner of Cupar Angus, now partitioner of Balchryrstie, County Fife, a moiety of land in Newborn Parish of St. Andrew, County Fife; the charter said he was "of Cupar Angus" (i.e. was born there), but is now of Balchrystie, Fifeshire."
